1) For any traffic infraction charge that does not already have a plea or disposition entered, and for which you use this service to make a full or partial payment, you are entering a plea of “not contested” and admitting to the facts substantiating the violation(s) with the full understanding of the nature of the charges and the consequences of not contesting the traffic infraction. Furthermore, by submitting payment online for these charges, you are WAIVING your right to a hearing in the Maine District Court as to the violation for which payment is submitted.
2) A convenience fee of 5% will be assessed for each electronic payment when using a credit or debit card. A minimum
convenience fee of $1.00 per transaction will be charged. Only Visa, MasterCard, and Discover will be accepted. American Express will not be accepted.
The convenience fee can be avoided by paying by mail using check or money order or by going to any Maine courthouse and paying by check, money order or cash.
3) The subtotal amount due reflects the fine amounts owed for all selected violations on the case. Each violation includes all statutory surcharges and fees. Surcharges include: 10% for Government Operations effective June 17, 1987; 3% for Maine Criminal Justice Academy effective June 1, 2006; 1% for County Jail Prisoner Support and Community Correction Fund effective August 1, 2002; 5% for Government Operations Surcharge Fund effective July 30, 2004; 1% for Maine State Police Computer Crime effective June 1, 2006; a $10 flat fee for the Civil Legal Services Fund, effective September 17, 2005; and, a $15 flat fee for the Court Management System, effective July 1, 2018.
4) If you contest your traffic infraction and do not appear at court, payment is due 30 days after the court date.
5) If you do not contest your traffic infraction and your payment is not received by the Violations Bureau within 35 days of the date you received your ticket a default judgment will be entered against you and the total amount will be due in 30 days.
6) If your payment is not received by the due date on your payment plan or if you allow someone to make a payment on your behalf and that payment is not received by the court, the court will apply a $50 late fee per charge, suspend your license and/or registration, intercept your tax refund, or deny the renewal of your license and/or registration until further order of the court or the balance is paid in full.
7) If a license or registration suspension has gone into effect on your case(s), the suspension will remain active unless and until payment (including any late fee(s)) in full is posted to your case(s), which will occur on the same day payment is made, AND the Bureau of Motor Vehicles has received your Notification of Eligibility to Restore along with any reinstatement fees due. It may take up to 48 hours for this information to be transmitted from the Violations Bureau to the Bureau of Motor Vehicles.
1) Excluding the convenience fee, payments will be paid directly to the Maine Judicial Branch.
2) The convenience fee will be paid directly to Tyler Technologies, Inc. and Chase Bank.
3) Refund Policy: No refunds shall be processed unless the party submitting payment can demonstrate that the payment was erroneously made or if the payment made was more than what was due. The clerks' offices do not process or handle requests for refunds. If you believe that you are entitled to a refund of your payment, you must submit your request to the Maine Judicial Branch Violations Bureau, P.O. Box 480, Lewiston, Maine 04243. You must include your name, telephone number, email address, the date of the payment, the approximate time payment was made, the citation number, the amount paid, the amount of the requested refund, and the reason for the refund. If this information is incomplete or incorrect, the Violations Bureau may not be able to process your request.
4) Please print and retain a copy of your payment receipt for your records. Should there be a discrepancy, malfunction, or interruption of service related to the use of this service, you may be required to present your receipt as proof of payment.
